5 Cranky Stars

Ah, the second story in the Marry the Scot series. If you loved “Storm the Castle”, you’ll love this one. My favorite thing was that the author started the story with a recap of how James and Beth initially met. The story of the weekend they spent together in bed sick is expanded upon and explained. In other words, this is James and Beth’s story and a good one it is.

James has always been a speak when spoken to young man. He is now 20 and lives with Callum and his brothers in Scotland to learn first hand how to run an estate. When he turns 21, the family fortune will be turned over to him along with the home, Belvedere. His uncle Richard has been acting as steward since James’ parents were killed in an auto accident.

On a business trip with Callum to London, Callum finds the love of his life, Mattie and she is accompanied by her best friend. James finds Beth startling in both looks and actions. As usual, he is tongue tied and shy. He has had no experience with women. One of the biggest problems in his life is the stipulation that he must be married by his 21st birthday, which is just months away, or he can’t inherit. Uncle Richard has a list of women for him to choose from, but he wants to marry for love, not money. Since Beth seems so intriguing, he starts texting her and finally works up the nerve to invite her to Callum’s for a weekend. Since Mattie is coming anyway, it’s a perfect arrangement.

Does anything ever goes as planned in a love story? Of course not. This is where the story gets to the “I can’t put it down” stage. Uncle Richard is a tyrant. Beth and James are falling in love, but both have trust and love issues. James takes her to his family home, and she is shocked to find out he is a British Lord. Uncle Richard shows up with a “Bride” and they must flee the manor and go back to Scotland to try to solve the problems. This is a very fast paced love story with lots of action. Now, I’m waiting for book 3 and will have to read the novella. I love this author.
