Please don't be like me and read this book in a car with your family because you'll cry so hard. Looks will be exchanged. I loved the story of Birdie and Cole. It breaks your heart but mends it back.
Birdie has had a tragic horrifying childhood. Her dad was sadistic and it left her with lasting scars. She can barely look at herself so she maintains a safe distance. She has always loved Cole even if he never knew. When their world collides they fall and fall hard.
Cole has always loved the shy Birdie. He lived for her timid smiles in school. When he finally gets a chance to finally tell her his true feelings he's already enlisted and about to ship out. Years later he's back with several losses under his belt and the shrapnel scars to prove it. He reconnects with Birdie and vows to protect her.
Holy holy. I know this is a revamping and a polish of the older book but it felt like reading a new story all over again. I loved them and all their broken pieces and how they patched each other up. Cole is the ultimate book boyfriend. You have to admire his fierce loyalty. Birdie is stronger than she realizes. I think everyone needs to get their hands on this series and fall in love with these southern gentlemen.
