My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 Cranky Stars

Lists help us keep our tasks in order but for Emma they are a coping mechanism she hides behind. A childhood marred by tragedy she is so type A to a point it hinders relationships except the obvious important one between her and her best friend and her Gram. She’s a 21 year old college student living in Deepsilver but she doesn’t do the typical things a 21 year old does. Her life is neat and organized and certain words trigger panic attacks. When a jellyfish sting puts her in the path of the hottest but most guarded lifeguard on the beach what follows is awkward and painful and beautiful.

Christian has come to the states from Slovakia to lifeguard. This was the perfect opportunity to see the USA. He is pursuing a degree in physics is Bratslavia so along with his best friend from childhood they hit the American beaches. His past is much like Emma’s full of painful secrets that hold him back. Relationships don’t register on his list. He’s too busy running to stay still long enough yet when he meets Emma things start to change.

I loved Christian! He was such a broken soul with so much heart. My heart hurt for his story. Emma I wanted to hug her and tell her she would be ok that life is scary but that’s ok too. I like that Alyson Santos puts a lot of heart and soul into her books. I mean I’m not a serious beach person but she made the beach sound downright heavenly. Also if you are a follower of Sunniva Dee books then you will notice some familiar places!!
