Pieces of Us (Confessions of the Heart, #3)Pieces of Us by A.L. Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 Cranky Stars

This is the story of a dragon sent to protect his little bird. He was tasked with slaying all her demons and protecting her at all cost. Sadly this dragon didn’t see himself being any good for his little bird so he set her free. She flew off to start a new life but always missed her dragon and never gave up hope that one day he might return to her.

Izzy has always loved Maxon. She dreamed of their wedding in their favorite spot in a meadow. They were destined to be ever since he rescued her from a tree she was about to fall out of. She knew that Mack didn’t come from the best place, but she saw his true self witnessed his big heart. When Mack sets her free, she flees to another state to mend her heart. She returns to Broadshire Rim with a big secret and hoping that she won’t run into Maxon, but she does and she is forced to come clean altering their lives.

Maxon has always loved Izzy who he called Little Bird. He rescued her from a tree and she stole his heart. Mack came from a bad family. An abusive dad and a mom who took it. He knew his dad wanted him to follow in the footsteps of a life of crime. When his family life collides with Izzy’s family in a tragic way he knows he has to set her free. Maxon turns his life around but his past is a stain on his soul. He always feels like he needs to repent for the mess he created. When Izzy shows back up it shocks him to his core, but her secret will rock him even more.

I loved Maxon and Izzy. Their love lasted despite it all. I could see the big heart that Mack had. His past wasn’t his fault. Izzy was a strong woman. She questioned herself often but she always made the right choices. Her parents made me laugh. Everyone deserves parents like that. A.L. Jackson weaved a tale of heartache and redemption in Pieces of Us. I’m glad we finally got Maxon’s story.
