New Review! A Touch of Death by Rebecca Crunden 5 Cranky Stars

A Touch of Death (The Outlands Pentalogy #1)A Touch of Death by Rebecca Crunden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Cranky Stars

This is the first book in a great series called The Outland Pentalogy. I was so impressed with the story and the characters that I immediately bought the other three books. I hope that book 5 will be coming soon.

This story takes place on Earth hundreds or maybe thousands of years in the future. The reason for the uncertain date is that history has been hidden from the survivors. Of course, life on Earth was destroyed by radiation and plague and the only survivors lived underground. When they finally came above ground, they were more wars and sickness. The Rulers decided that the only way for survival was “CONFORMITY, CONTROL AND CONTINUATION.”

Thus, the story begins in the prison with a political dissenter, Nate who just happens to be the son of the King’s Favorite. One guard takes mercy on him and helps him stay alive. He’s lucky as most people are executed immediately.

It is a few years later and Nate and his brother, Thom’s girlfriend are on the run in the prohibited mountain range. It is rainy and cold and they must find shelter. Catherine (Kitty) hurts her foot and Nate must carry her. When they find an abandoned building, they carefully take shelter. Rumor has it that there were research labs in these mountains where heinous acts were performed on humans and mutants. When Kitty steps on broken glass, Nate must pull all the pieces out of her foot.

What has she stepped on in this scary place. Little do they know that this will be the start of a harrowing adventure across the continents and seas.
