New Review! Balance in Death by Francesca Vance 5 Cranky Stars
Balance In Death by Francesca Vance
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5 Cranky Stars
This book is slightly reminiscent of a tv show I used to watch named Dead Like Me, only with a darker theme and more complex characters. The main character Cole is a reaper whose job is to collect souls who call by helping them cross over. He does his job well, until the soul he is to collect is someone he knows. Throughout the book we meet many different supernatural characters and learn of a the Reaper Society and in general a whole supernatural world. The main human character Ava is definitely someone most women can relate to.
The world created by the author is complex and interesting. The supernatural characters are clearly not human but with enough touches of human traits to give them more depth and leave the reader wondering how human they are. However, we are reminded that they aren't human throughout different situations and it brings us back to the darkness of the story. There is a perfect balance of romance and terror, which makes us as readers entranced by the story line.
The characters are well developed with a lot of depth, and the story flowed perfectly. It was a quick and easy read that left me wanting to jump right in to book 2.
