This book was sadly disappointing. I read the synopsis for this book and jumped in both feet ready for one of those sweet romances that melt your heart and make you fall in love. It was exactly what the premises of the entire story was supposed to be, but sadly the deliverance and execution of this book did not do it justice. I wanted so badly to love Naia and Chase and I just couldn’t get into it. I fell asleep so many times reading it, it was like a monotone lecture that didn’t end and just kept going and going and going and.... zzzzzzzzz. *snores loudly*
The first big major thing with this book is the entire book was a telling. Yes I am not kidding. From the first page to the last the entire story was told to the reader. There was no showing involved to allow the reader to see the characters actions or see their feelings. Instead the author told us what they did and how they felt but there was no build up, no evidence to say how why what or where the story was going. It was a this and that and then... and then... and then... as if some high school beauty queen was giving her life bio to her best friend and would stop talking about herself. There was no build up or anything, no context to it, no real plot or conflict (aside from the world of self created drama that didn’t need to happen) and it was beyond cliche. It just plain and simply and oh so boringly was there.
There just wasn’t any originality to this either. It’s the same story that has been told many times over and it didn’t sweep me off my feet and make me fall in love. It’s the same boy meets girl boy loves girl boy loses girl boy gets girl then loses her (three times at least he got her and lost her) then HEA the end. It just doesn’t do it for me. Where is the creativity? The originality? The uniqueness to stand out from the crowd? It just didn’t have that spark or pizazz to be phenomenal, not for me anyways.
For me the characters were very flawed. There was no real motive for the sister to do what she did. It was childish and honestly what kind of love do Chase and NAIA really have if they believe the other would break up via email and them so easily accept it when the whole book say they love each other unconditionally and so intensely. An email wouldn’t stand against that kind of love and they would have fought for the other now. So there were just too many flaws in their characters and their beliefs that I just didn’t believe they loved each other. And NAIA was so hypocritical. She couldn’t make up her mind on anything to save her life and honestly I don’t see how everyone is crazy about her. She is self centered and selfish and really just a prude. She was mean a lot and did more whining and crying than anything, and never really was happy ever. So it was irritating to try and connect with her when she didn’t deserve a man like chase.
For me this book was a flop. You could tell it was written by an amateur and there wasn’t really a lot of effort put into the details of the story to really pull the reader it. It’s definitely NOT a Nicholas Sparks type romance. If anything you’d think it was written for a creative writing assignment that for a B on it for effort.
