This is a continuation of the story in “The Keeper”. Libby defeated Haenus of the Betrayers. Mount Verdant is safe and the Watcher’s Realm is healing itself slowly. This is Dev’s story. He was raised by Nick’s family after his parents died. They were devastated when Haenus killed him. He is now in the Watcher’s Realm. Without his help, Libby would have failed. His family didn’t know he lived in that Realm.
Dev was dissatisfied with his lot in life/death. He wanted to be back on Earth. He was a rebel with a death wish. The Elders however have a special purpose for him. He is given seven days to return to Earth and complete a task that could hopefully save them all. Dev must find and convince Meda/Mia, that she is also a key to saving humanity.
Meda/Mia’s father was a scientist working on the idea that energy could be converted and stored in something for future use. If he hadn’t died, he might have been the one Dev was looking for. However, this all fell on Meda/Mia now. Once Dev finds her, he must get her back to Chicago to a secret warehouse where they can work. What they are looking for is a way to reproduce the anti-magic stone that the Betrayers still are using. Onto a motorcycle, a mad dash across the country along with attempts on their lives drives them forward. Once in Chicago, they go to the warehouse but are soon discovered.
Again, a “can’t put it down thriller.” Twists and turns and love and magic are the perfect combination.
