New Review! The Immortals (The Immortal Brotherhood #1) by Alesha Escobar 4 Cranky Stars
The Immortals by Alesha Escobar
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4 CRANKY STARS
I enjoyed this story but can only give it 4 stars because for me it seemed too predictable. It’s a modern-day story of secret societies, immortals, magic and double agents. The heroine, Raina is an agent of a group that I never could figure out what they did but spy. She also, has a side job as a thief to earn extra money to pay for her sister’s cancer treatments. As the infamous Nightwalker, she commands huge fees for the relics and weapons she supplies illegally to people of disreputable reputations. It appears that her whole existence revolves around illegal activities.
On her latest job, she refuses to give up the package. In it is a lovely but strange pendant. Of course, she puts it around her neck and the clasp hooks. As in all these stories, it now can’t be removed and imbues her with magical powers. She doesn’t know this at first but as the crooks stalk and try to kill her, she learns. This is when she meets Noah and learns about the Immortal Brotherhood and the Servi Mortis. Just which group is good, and which is evil remains a question until near the end of this book.
Everyone is after her and that pendant. Her sister’s cancer appears to be worse and then there is a surprise twist. Things are not always what they seem especially when good and evil are connected. Can all our characters survive to the next book and what will lie in store for them. Also, what did her family have to do with these organizations? What a twisted web this is.

This one sounds pretty intriguing. I don't mind predictability if the prose is still enjoyable to read.
