The Pantheon Prophecy: Book 1The Pantheon Prophecy: Book 1 by A. Maureen Burns
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Cranky Stars

This book is getting four stars because I found it extremely hard to read. Elspeth is the owner of a bookstore with her mother figure Missy. Elspeth’s died a few years prior and she inherited all their books that are kept in the basement of the bookstore. She lives in Scotland in Inverness, next to Loch Ness. She knows extraordinarily little about her parents and their work except that they collected relics. For some reason, she has very low self-esteem. It seems her father always told her she was not ready for anything and could not do anything right. He went to his grave never having praised her. Trying to prove herself in the field of history of magic in the Highlands, she has written and published two books. She has submitted a paper to a prestigious journal at the University and is waiting for any word on whether she would be published in that journal. Afterall, her father’s friend was the editor. Suddenly on a stormy day, a stranger shows up at the bookstore. His name is Luka and he tells her he is a Paladin from the Citadel. She is sure the man is crazy. She has never heard of Paladins or the Citadel. The weather turns crazy and Luka tries to convince he is there to guard her. Then the story gets involved with magic and Elspeth soon finds out that everything she thought she knew about her parents was a lie.

Twists, turns and several new characters keep the action going. It isn’t something I would look for a sequel to read.
