5 Cranky Stars

I pinky swear that this book is well worth the read. Its equal parts laugh out loud funny and will make you swoon. In the immortal words of Maximus Aurelius….Are you not entertained? I know when I dive into a Tara Sivec novel I will be and probably come out with a new raunchy vocabulary. I learned a few new words and saying today in fact. I call that a win.

Ember Hastings has left her life behind on her family owned pumpkin farm to move to Chicago with her husband Brandon and their son Lincoln. She absolutely hates it. She feels like a Stepford wife with a husband who seems to love his job more. When he decides he can’t do it anymore with Ember they divorce, and she starts life anew as a single mom. She takes a job as a transcriptionist and it’s here she meets Baker Matthews. He’s everything she should avoid but he makes her feel like herself which is something she hasn’t felt in forever. She takes up his offer to interview him for a piece to generate business for his gym. She slowly falls for him and tries to deny him at every turn but Baker is slicker than otter snot (you like how I worked cute otters into this review?)and before she knows it he has worked his way into her and Lincolns life and heart.

Baker Matthews is a good guy. He’s one of the rare few without an airplane full of baggage. He is a wounded war vet who owns a gym that helps other guys like him. See!! Genuine good guy! When a glitch happens with the transcription company, he starts an email chain with Ember. She intrigues him and he wants to meet her. Under the guise of needing a more in-depth interview that doesn’t include questions about his favorite color he woes Ember. He becomes enamored by her and her precious 8-year-old son. When Ember finally lifts her ban on them dating, he goes all out with little things like carrying her bag to big things like helping her pick out a pet for her son. He is just always there to make her life easy and getting upset with Brandon’s lack of showing up for his son. He falls for her and falls quick.

I’m still laughing over Ron Jeremy the hedgehog from Hell. You must read this story to learn why the kid had a porn star named pet. I love how clueless Ember was about what Baker was doing. I adore her as a mother she kept it real. We all bribe our kids at some point to make them do things. Guilty as charged. Baker made me swoon with his sarcastic vibe and swoon worthy words. His first date with Ember was something I’d like to go on. Take me Baker! This book was a slow burn which I loved. She made him work for it. I’m so glad I got a chance to read this story. I haven’t read The Simple Life yet so I’m going to jump into that soon. Another winner from the hilarious Mrs Sivec.
