***** 5 Cranky Stars *****
In the not too distant future, humans have become complacent with their comforts and their world.
Demons had been plotting for thousands of years to ascend to the land from the bowels of the earth and this time they succeed. The Master with the help of powerful demon magic shrouds the landmasses of the world in perpetual darkness. The humans who survive flock out of the dangerous cities into villages where they pay fidelity to the village demon who treats them as slaves.
On their 21st birthday girls are categorized by the village demon (in this case Peymon) to"ascend " into the Mater's service. Athena is categorized as a wife for the Master but Peymon offers her marriage to him instead to protect her from the Master' cruelty. Then Peymon dies and the village is given to Erebos..... young, vibrant, ruggedly handsome........but still a demon..........
To me this story has a very loose take on Beauty and the beast, but it is sooooo much more.
Battles with demons, infernals, miscreant vampires and demonized animals, this book is a dystopian fantasy romance and I can barely wait for book 2 to come.
I award a solid 5 stars to this captivating book.
