I really don’t know how best to review this book. I loved the storyline and the characters. It is set in a small village in England. A band of gypsies travels to this town every summer and is welcomed by the townspeople. This has been going on for years. What makes this story hard to review is that I found out right in the beginning that it has been around since 2010 and is just now hitting the ebook scene. There are also what appear to be novellas that follow this book. At least I don’t have to wait for sequels.
The story is about Richard and Amelia and their 10 year old daughter. Amelia was raised in a gypsy caravan and she is a very talented herbalist. Richard is a doctor who travels the country with Amelia. When Richard becomes ill, she contacts Richard’s father and they head for Springfields where Richard was born.
Springfields is a very strange town with old mysteries and superstitions. Once it becomes clear that Richard won’t survive, Amelia realizes she must settle here for the sake of her daughter, Elisha. All goes well until Elisha’s 20th birthday and she falls in love. Strange noises and supernatural visions occur in the woods around their home. Something is not natural but even worse things are about to occur. Couldn’t put it down even though I am way older than the target age for this book.
