At first I thought this was going to be a very good book. Starting with Kyle as a 12 year old boy taking his little sister Lily to the park with his friend Ty. While the boys were distracted Lily was abducted and found murdered. Then they found the abductor and he had killed himself. His father blamed Kyle and walked out and his mother retracted into her own grief. Nearly 2 decades had passed and the grief had made Kyle into a very angry young man. He worked for the fire department along with his friends. Then the author bombards you with loads of new characters, which I couldn't tell who was related to who.
Kyle met Carissa at a party and whispered he would make her his no matter how long it takes. Carissa and her deaf younger sister Heidi live with their trucker father after their mother had died of Cancer. She also had self loathing as she felt it was her that caused her mother to die. Another three years go by and Carissa graduated and seemed to just jump into bed with Kyle! The many characters in this 3 years had partnered up and had children or were pregnant, I couldn't keep track.
The men in this book come over as being very arrogant and the women weak. There were funny moments from the few weird characters, but on the whole they all seem to have hang-ups about their past. The saving grace of this book is the end, not only was their forgiveness, but an unexpected event happened that had you turning the next page with eager anticipation.
