New Review! Fanya in the Underworld by Jordan Elizabeth 5 Cranky Stars
Fanya in the Underworld by Jordan Elizabeth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5 Cranky Stars
In a parallel universe where Russia still owns Alaska, Fanya and her sister flee the city and run to the Unganan. The Unganan is the race of their mother and are full of magic. Their stepmother inherited the family belongings instead of Fanya when her father died, and Fanya seeks the help of her relatives to recover her inheritance, but she is also curious about her mother’s people.
I found the Unganan people who call themselves Aleut, very down to earth and they reminded me of the Inuit people. On the whole the story was interesting, with danger and fantasy woven in. It is a steampunk fantasy story, very well written. Most of the city is steam-tech with spirit magic woven in.
