New Review! The Flame of Battle (Dragonrigers of Skala #1) by Paula Creeden 3 Cranky Stars

The Flame of Battle (Dragonriders of Skala #1)The Flame of Battle by Pauline Creeden
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3 Cranky Stars

This book was kindly monotone. It had one level and everything seemed to be going at one speed. Even when the big scenes came up, they weren’t as exciting as they could have been.

The characters, some intertwined with each other but not gracefully. Others fit well together. When they were happy you could tell but you didn’t know whether they were joking or serious. The characters had one certain power. That power is song power, some stronger than others, and when they sung together it made the person stronger while in battle or healing or even riding a dragon.

The main character, Dylfinna, she was a good commander and swordsman, and dragon rider. Her song power though she kept locked up. When it came out, nothing good really came of it. Her papa, is the Queens right hand man, he disowned Dylfinna basically and the backstory to that, took until the end for you to understand. The events leading up to the ending didn’t fit well together. Towards the end it kept me a little more interested because I wanted to know how she gets home and what happens when and if she got there.
