Emma experienced death at a very young age, when she found her grandmother and couldn't wake her. She was very close to her grandmother and a way of helping Emma come to terms with it was to write messages in the sand at the beach behind their house. Her mother used to tell her that the waves would take her messages to the ocean angels for her grandmother to read. Unfortunately her mother was taken from her, her sister Amy and father in an accident. She carried on again writing notes to her mother this time. As life passed by Amy had married and had a sweet little girl, but Emma just could not find true love. In comes Brent, his wife was take from him and his little girl Hope. Emma had gone into the profession of counselling children in bereavement, so Brent asked Emma to help with Hope. He had a beautiful house that backed onto the beach. So the messages in the sand were the first thing she started with Hope and so grew their relationship.

This is a lovely short story, well written regarding the feelings of bereavement not only of Hope, but Brent too and Emma's even though they were long ago. A sensitive subject tackled very well.
