I’m going to say it did take me awhile to finish this story. It seems to cover a lot of things going on at once and maybe it’s just my brain having a hard time with it. Not the first time to be honest. It’s like romantic single dad thriller maybe but it was good. You can’t help but fall in love with Miller and his awesome kiddos. You find yourself cheering for him and his family and Gwen. You even find a soft spot for her meddling bestselling author mother May.

Miller Rush has been to war but that was a walk in the park compared to what he seen in the shipping building of his former workplace. Him and his best friend Keith uncover some incriminating evidence and set out to expose the creeps who are responsible. Sadly, that doesn’t go as plan and they must pull set off plan B and run. Miller scoops up his kids and hires a lawyer to set him up with a fake wife and the whole shebang. It’s here he finds himself in the home of Gwendolyn Courtney. A tall unassuming red head who has no real idea what she’s getting into. Miller starts to wonder if Gwen is the perfect person for this ruse. Gwen didn’t really understand what she agreed to and how deep it would take her down. She just wanted to prove to her boss that she is a good worker and deserves a better chance. Besides being a paralegal, she is also an inspiring author much like her mother. She opens her home and eventually her heart to Miller and his kids. It’s during the journey of keeping them safe and trying to make Shane and Lauren's life normal that she learns about the mess Miller is involved in. She wants to run in fear because let’s face is Gwen is scared of a lot of things yet when the kid’s lives are on the line she steps up and gives them a mother like they’ve never known.

So hear me out the only real issue I had was at one point they are running for their lives and wanting to keep kids safe but they are banging like bunnies while the kids are like 20 steps away playing board games. Like anyone could have came in that cabin! I guess you have to stress release somehow. It’s a good story all in all. When Miller reveals what’s in the box I cringed! That was a good little part.

I love the kiddos and how well they adapted. Lauren is wise for her young age and her twin Shane is all boy with a heart of gold. I think May had good intentions by being so meddling. Gwen, she didn’t give herself enough credit, but she kicked butt when she needed too. She’s a good nurturer. I think this book would be perfect for anyone who loves mystery and romance and some sexy times filled with some cute kiddos.
