Lightning streaked across the sky, backlighting the eighteen-year-old goddess as she stood silhouetted against the maelstrom outside. Her auburn hair was wind-whipped and plastered to her neck and face, and though newly reborn, her divinity was something she could never hide … at least not from me.

“How far is it to the temple?” she asked.

“Five hours, but hopefully, you can get some sleep along the way. You’ll need your energy for when we arrive.”

Gaia pulled her jean jacket over her soaked cotton tee and followed me from the room. She was oblivious of the Crags and their intent to kill her, and it was my job––and my punishment—to keep it that way. To protect her from everything … even knowing they exist. After losing my own daughter, and the training I’d forced myself through, this was a task I would not fail again.

Apparently to get the boy bander of your dreams you just insult their music and call them a cliché. I mean it worked for Lyric and Ryder. Nothing like a good insult to get the mood going I suppose. That is the case of Lyric a musician and a nanny who doesn’t want to be a sell out and Ryder a former boy bander turned producer that has quit the spotlight to focus on his daughter. One firmly in the proverbial closet and one out and proud.

Lyric gigs on the weekends and is looking for a nanny position to supplement his income while he tries to find that elusive record label that won’t make him conform. While out with his nephew he encounters Ryder Kennedy when Kaylee kicks Chase in the hamster tunnels at a playground but prior to this he can be overheard telling Chase Eleven is a cliché. Ryder is drawn to Lyric and he’s not sure why. While it’s no secret in his inner circle that he’s gay the rest of the world doesn’t know. Surely, he just likes this guy because he’s a challenge and doesn’t care that he’s famous. When he learns that Lyric is also an early childhood degree holder, he thinks maybe it’s time for a nanny. Ryder knows that Lyric has gigs but doesn’t really learn the extent of his talent until he catches a very Brenden Urie rendition of Into the Unknown one day in his family room. They fight each other at every turn. Ryder trying to deny his feelings and Lyric sticking to his guns.

I did have to stop reading to YouTube that version of the song. Boy has pipes and while our Lyric has blonde hair I can’t stop picturing him as Brenden. I always know I’m in for an aww shucks someone get me a fan because the tension in this room is gonna make me combust when I read Eden Finley. She does it effortlessly. It’s not emotionally heavy but you know there will be heart. You will see two people grow and I love that. I loved their family dynamic with Kaylee and her mother. This has been a fun series so far and I can’t wait to see who’s next.

Tale as old as time….beauty falls in love with a beast. It’s a story that is told a million different ways a million different times. This story is vastly different than the original in many ways. This beast is fae with many secrets and the beauty is human taken from her world and thrust into a strange and scary new place. Surely this won’t go well for them they are two different species but love always prevails.

Maelynn is just an average human living her life day to day. She wants to help battered woman and is working toward a career in that field. Life for the most part is good until she finds herself being taken from a parking lot one night. Safe always reliable Maelynn is now in the fairy realms and on the auctioning block. Zander knows his fated mate is out there but has all but given up. He rules his realm begrudgingly. He sets out to break up the trafficking rings that are plaguing his city and stumbles upon Maelyn. She calls to him and he must rescue this woman because he feels her pain. One rescue mission down he asks for her to stay and give this new world a try. Maelynn isn’t sure of her sudden feelings toward Zander but deep down she knows if she leaves it would kill her.

King Zander is spicy!! I mean he is dominating but has a heart of a gold buried under all that surly exterior. Maelynn well she is admirable. She could have had a fit lost her ever loving mind but nope she stayed strong and wanted to help others. Zander’s story is heartbreaking to say the least. I really liked this story I couldn’t put it down which is saying a lot because lately I’ve been in a book funk. I want more. Is anyone’s story left? Ughhhhh!!!

Myra is obsessed with medieval times and the Hue Castle is at the center of her obsession. Her friend Steven uses her knowledge and her to model as a princess in the game he is developing. As soon as she enters the castle, the castle awakens with dark energy and a cursed object causes Myra to travel back in time.

In book three, we are reunited with Myra and Edward Hue (the cursed prince). Myra makes him feel all the feelings, and above all else he feels hope for his cursed life. There are obstacles in his way, the evil and twisted King Stefan who has his eyes set on the beautiful heroine.

I am in love with Samreen Ahsan’s storytelling. She has weaved a magical web of suspense, drama, conflict, and amazing characters. As soon as I opened the book, I felt like I was a part of the time travel/historical times with Myra and Edward. I was captivated by the first book and I am still ensnared in the beauty of the words.

New Review! Sweet Little Nothing by L.K. Farlow 4 Cranky Stars

Sweet Little NothingSweet Little Nothing by L.K. Farlow

4 Cranky Stars

This was kind of a departure from the LK Farlow I’ve read previously and I’m totally down for it. I was expecting angst and happily ever after, but I wasn’t prepared for how things began. The story of Emmy and Sterling and how something amazing can come from a less than stellar beginning.

The story of Emmalynn Price isn’t a pretty one. It’s tragic but she’s brave. Trying to start a new life at a new school only to have her past come crashing into her safe place. Sterling Abbot adheres to the Bro Code so he takes his best friends side and isn’t too kind to Emmy. Despite knowing her since they were kids, he is set on making her pay. Little do Emmy and Sterling know they decide to get close to get payback on each other, but love is funny that way. Slowly they both come to realize they are both a pawn in someone else’s sick game.

Well, this book was a rollercoaster of emotions. One minute hey there’s hope then boom crashing down. Rob is a piece of trash that gets stuck to the inside of a dumpster for eternity. Sterling I was skeptical but held onto hope. I just want to wrap Emmy in a warm blanket and feed her cookies. She’s so fragile but resilient. I’m in love with the best friends as well and I can’t wait for Stellas story.

New Review! Not So Sincerely, Yours (For Him #2) by A.M. Johnson 5 Cranky Stars

Not So Sincerely, Yours (For Him, #2)Not So Sincerely, Yours by A.M. Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Word of the day: Wordsmith (noun) meaning a skilled user of words. Sentence: AM Johnson is a wordsmith who knows how to make us fall in love with fictional characters as if they are of flesh and blood.

Anders runs a successful publishing company. He is content in his life to a certain extent he knows his mom wants him to fill the rooms of his house with babies and give her the heteronormative dream she has in her mind for him. He has had failed relationships with both sexes and maybe he just needs to accept that. He is still friends with Wilder and his new husband Jax but with them comes Ethan. Anders isn’t fond of Ethan since the incident. When Wilder approaches Anders with the idea of hiring Ethan to be his temporary assistant he is dead set against it. Ethan is fresh out of a relationship with a man who always put him second. Galivanting about the world while Ethan stayed in one spot. He moves in with Wild and Jax to start anew and start school. When he is given a job with Anders, he knows this will go down in flames. They hate each other with fiery passion but maybe just maybe that fiery passion can be put to good use in the bedroom. I’m sure you can guess what happens next. It’s not just sex it’s falling slowly and surely with the least likely person you’d see yourself with.

“We were chasing seconds like thieves, stealing time for ourselves, adding up minutes until he had hours of skin and lips. I’d jumped off this cliff with him and I wasn’t ready to land.” I mean come on that alone should make you want to read this book! Jump on in and read the love story of Ethan and Anders but before you do go read Love Always, Wild it’s a necessity for this story.

New Review! Forbidden by Adrienne Woods 4 Cranky Stars

ForbiddenForbidden by Adrienne Woods
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Werewolves, Vampires, Witches and other supernatural beings are all told as fairytales, stories. Are they really just fairytales or stories though? Is everyone always the villain or can they be the good guys?

This book is mainly about werewolves and the hunters. Hunters are born to hunt, that’s what they do. They are trained from an early age what to do and to kill or be killed.

Ru is a hunter, but she is not as good as her brother or sister, but Ru has visions like her grandmother did but she will not tell her family. Her family is a part of the Supernatural Hunting Association (SHA). They hunt werewolves and her and her family are good at it. Ru has an older sister Elizabeth (Lizzie) and Theo and then it’s just her father.

One day another group of Hunters came to Ru’s farm and asked for help to catch some werewolves. They wanted to find the Alpha so they needed help catching the other wolves without killing them to get information out of them. Ru’s family helps and goes to training and does the hunts.

One of the other hunters is named Collin. His story is he we aced by wolves while his family was killed by them. Not all true. Lizzie, Ru’s sister falls for Collin hard, Collin doesn’t feel the same and tries to let her down easy….Lizzie isn’t happy. The hunts go on, things happen, Collin saves Ru’s life and gets hurt, “almost dies”. While healing, Ru and Collin have to stay at Ru’s house while the others hunt because Collin isn’t healed and Ru can’t control her visions. Of course they fall for each other.

I have always said that things are not as they seem. Collin and his group are not who they seem. Ru’s father discovers the truth and Ru betrays her family. Did she stay with the one she loves? Did her family forgive her?

I like the book. I would recommend it to others. It gets a 4 out 5 Cranky starts from me.

New Review! The Electric Girl by Christine Hart 4 Cranky Stars

The Electric GirlThe Electric Girl by Christine Hart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this story very hard to get a handle on. I was frequently distracted by other things around me. Maybe if the author had written more about the alien characters before they came to Earth, it would have been more interesting. Many times I just wanted to lay it down and not finish. I'm glad I didn't though because the story got a little better as it went on.

It's about a young girl (15yo) whose Mom has cancer. Polly lost her Dad in a car accident and now she was going to lose her Mom. Luckily she has a group of girlfriends that will stick with her no matter what. So when she tells them something strange happened in the Cherry Orchard behind her house they go to investigate. First there was a strange booming sound and then she spotted strange blue lights. When they go to investigate, they see a naked young girl running from them. Unsure what to do, they call the police. Life for Polly and her friends takes a strange turn after that incident. Not wanting their parents to know what is happening, they sneak around.

This is a very strange story but I'm glad I read it. It's not for everyone so only 4 stars.

I loved the first book and this one is just as good. The story picks up with Calla and friends arriving in the Kingdom of Incendia. She has been told she is the true heir to the throne here but she only wants to learn about her magic. It is getting stronger but she has no control. She was told there were survivors but no one has ever seen them. The no sooner step foot into the woods to explore when they are surrounded and captured. Now begins a strange journey to meet the current queen and her people. She is taken to the cave of the Fire Princess to learn her powers. She is again astonished to learn that nothing in her life had prepared her for what is to come. She doesn't want to spend her life running and hiding from Roehl but he always manages to find her. She'll never be free of him unless she kills him. Again, she must put her own life at risk to save those she loves.

Nonstop action again, and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. The writing is so good, you find yourself right there with Calla as she tries to save her world. Can't wait for the next installment in this series.

New Review! Of the Blood (Heir of Blood and Fire #1) by Cameo Renae 5 Cranky Stars

Of the Blood (Heir of Blood and Fire, #1)Of the Blood by Cameo Renae
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 CRANKY STARS

This is the first book I've read by this author but I see her name all the time. I am certainly glad I picked this up. Her writing style and subject matter are exactly what I love. This is the first of what will be a series. It is about Vampires, magic and other mystical creatures.

The humans in this world know about the magicals which seems more realistic. The main character is a human girl, Calla, just turning eighteen. She is shy by nature but her best friend insists on throwing her a party. When a handsome man, Trystan, appears suddenly, her world changes forever. She now must live a frightening life on the run. A grandfather she never met isn't dead and the King of the magical world on the far end of the continent is after her. She learns that her whole family is on a kill list. When the evil Prince Roehl finds her, she is tortured. What does he want of her? This is when she finds out the story behind her true heritage. Nothing she knew about her past is true. She goes from a shy little girl to a strong woman who wants nothing more than to save her family and friends. If she must die to achieve this end, so be it.

You will fall in love with all of these characters, except Roehl, by the end of the book. The action is spellbinding and you won't want to put the book down. Sounds like a great series is starting.

Blog Tour! Tristan(The Hawks #1) by Jennie Lynn Roberts

Tristan
Jennie Lynn Roberts
(The Hawks, #1)
Publication date: February 22nd 2021
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

His redemption might be her downfall…

Tristan has nothing left to lose. His best friend’s betrayal cost him everything. Now, he’s going to take it back. All he has to do to get the Hawks reinstated to their rightful position at the palace is track down the traitor’s younger sister and turn her over for execution. But Nim’s not the girl Tristan left behind years ago; she’s a stubborn, loyal, beautiful woman, and he can’t stop himself from wanting her.

Nim fled with nothing when the king’s favorite came for her. All she has left is the conviction that her brother is innocent—and her determination to free him. She’ll do anything…even if it means convincing Tristan to help her. But the man he’s become is a far cry from the boy she fell in love with so long ago. He’s formidably stern and deeply untrusting. She’ll just have to hope he still has a heart under that battle-scarred exterior.

When love and duty collide, will Tristan follow his orders or follow his heart?

Tristan, book 1 in The Hawks series, is a sexy, steamy, adult fantasy romance full of swords, shifters (kind of), and tons of action. But fair warning: This book is intended only for readers who love slow burn romance, fast-paced adventure, soul mates and found family—and characters who curse when they fight for survival. If that’s you, happy reading.

Goodreads / Amazon

Author Bio:

Jennie Lynn Roberts believes that every strong, kickass heroine should have control of her own story, a swoony hero to support her at every turn, and a guaranteed happily ever after. Because that doesn’t always happen in real life, she began creating her own worlds that work just the way they should. And she hasn’t looked back since.

Jennie would rather be writing than doing anything else—except for spending time with her gorgeous family, of course. But when she isn’t building vibrant new worlds, she can be found nattering with friends, baking up a storm, or strolling in the woods around her home in England.

If you want to talk books, romance, movies, reluctant heroes, or just about anything else with Jennie, feel free to contact her atwww.jennielynnroberts.com. But be prepared to settle in for a long chat if you bring up shifters, vampires, Star Wars, or The Princess Bride….
