Book Blitz! Queen of Fate and Fire (Rogue Ethereals #6) by Annie Anderson

Queen of Fate & Fire
Annie Anderson
(Rogue Ethereal #6)
Publication date: July 28th 2020
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy
A crown I don’t want. A bargain I can’t take back. A life I refuse to sacrifice.
After four hundred years on my own, one would think I’d be able to walk away and never look back. I’d done it a thousand times before with nary an inkling of guilt. But with my brand new predicament, there is no way I can turn down the offered bargain—not if I want everyone I love to stay alive.
Now, all I have to do is trek through the very realm I nearly died to keep sealed. Sure. Because there’s no way that could go wrong.
Unseelie Court, here I come.
EXCERPT:
They say the first year of marriage was the hardest. If the blade to my new husband’s throat was any indication, they—whoever they were—would be right.
But this wasn’t my husband—not really.
Sure, this was Alistair’s body, and sure, he was probably hidden somewhere, crouched low in the recesses of his own mind, but the man looking through Alistair’s eyes, and wearing Alistair’s skin was not my husband. He was some kind of dark Fae, and he’d taken over.
“What have you done with him? Where is he?” I’d meant it to come out as commanding, but I didn’t quite hit the mark. I was a frantic mess at best, and the monster wearing my husband’s skin knew it.
This was what I got for coming to Faerie. Literally every single person with any lick of sense said demons could get possessed here. They said it was too risky. They said Alistair was in danger by following me to this place.
Did I listen?
Of course not. I smiled, nodded, and did whatever the fuck I wanted to anyway, and look where we were. Look at what happened to the man I loved.
I should have known something was off the moment I saw Alistair fall in the gorge. We’d been trying to keep the Unseelie Fae back. We were trying to stop Verena and whatever cracked plot she was trying to carry out. I’d thought we’d succeeded. Peering into the strikingly blue eyes of Alistair’s hijacked face, I’d say we missed one.
I saw the lie cross his face before he opened his mouth. No. Not today, buddy.
“Think very carefully about what you say next.”I could practically feel my molars cracking from how hard I was clenching my jaw, and if my blade happened to nick his neck, well, it was just a sign that I meant business.
And yeah, this was far too close to home for me. Not just that it was Alistair—not that it was the man I loved being used in such a fashion. No, this was Maria all over again. This was everything I’d buried bubbling up to the surface.
And if Alistair’s face wavered a little due to some unshed tears, well, I’d say I’d earned them.
Not-Alistair took that moment to pounce, bringing the sword from his scabbard up and knocking my blade away from his neck.
I scrambled back a step, before our swords clashed—or rather my athame went from dagger-sized to short-sword sized after I pressed the rune on the handle, and I attacked. My fencing skills were weak at best, but no-rules swordplay? Aidan had once said I was a natural.
Still, this guy was parrying every single strike like he was humoring me rather than fighting for his life.
“I am not your enemy,” Not-Alistair’s mouth said, but his voice was no longer my husband’s. It had a burr of something else I couldn’t place. A smokiness that had never been there before—not even when he’d been phased.
“Really? You got a funny way of showing it.” My frustration bubbled up inside my chest as I slashed and parried. I couldn’t say why I didn’t want to use the power that roiled beneath my skin, but I didn’t.
I could kill him.
I could hurt him.
But I didn’t want to.

New Review! Exorcism (Ravencrest Saga #3) by Tamara Thorne and Alistair Cross 5 Cranky Stars

Exorcism: The Ravencrest Saga: Book 3Exorcism: The Ravencrest Saga: Book 3 by Thorne and Cross
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 CRANKY STARS

This book is the best of the three. So much happens, it is hard to keep all the characters straight. Then, a new suspicious entity is introduced. He makes nightly visits to one of the maids, but she does not tell anyone figuring it is all a dream. The Greek Pool becomes the center of attention as strange things start happening. No one is allowed out of the house after dark as Grant and Riley try to find solutions to the myriad of problems on the grounds. Belinda is finally starting to hone her skills under Grant’s teachings. The ghosts are more active and only Belinda has the power to communicate with them. In this book, she finds the whole story behind many of the odd things that have happened at Ravencrest. Everyone tells her she is much stronger than any of them and she must learn to use those powers. Even Cordelia accepts a truce and helps as their world is slowly falling apart.

Without reading the first two books, this one will make no sense. However, the authors ended without answering a lot of questions. I hope this means that the Saga will continue.

New Review! The Witches of Ravencrest (Ravencrest Saga #2) by Tamara Thorne and Alistair Cross 5 Cranky Stars

The Witches of Ravencrest (The Ravencrest Saga #2)The Witches of Ravencrest by Tamara Thorne

5 CRANKY STARS

This second book is just as thrilling as the first. We meet more ghosts and witches. Cordelia is worse than ever, and Belinda and Grant have started working together. No one knows what happened to Belinda’s friend nor her mother. Both have just vanished. As far as Belinda is concerned, it is peace at last for her. Eric Manning is starting to fall for Belinda in a big way, but Grant keeps reminding them of the curse. When Cordelia casts a spell to scare Belinda, she unwittingly lets loose creatures far more deadly. Grant and Riley have their hands full trying to clear up the mess. Then we meet the witches of the town also known as the Pinks. Harvest Ball is a disaster and Eric and Belinda are falling for each other.

This book never seems to stop. Every time you turn the page, a new disaster awaits, or a new ghost shows up. Funny, scary and full of excitement. You must read Book 1 first to understand what is happening in this one. You will fall in love with some of the Ghosts too. Not all ghosts are bad, some are just trapped and want to be left alone.

New Review! The Ghosts of Ravencrest (Ravencrest Saga #1) by Tamara Thorne and Alistair Cross

The Ghosts of Ravencrest (The Ravencrest Saga #1)The Ghosts of Ravencrest by Tamara Thorne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 CRANKY STARS

This is an entertaining story with good and bad witches, magic and ghosts. The story was originally released in 2016 as a serial and is back now as a trilogy.

It starts in California when a young lady is looking for a new job. She needs to make more money and get away from her overbearing mother and her pervert of a roommate. She finds a position as a governess in an old mansion. It is said the mansion was brought over brick by brick from England and then reassembled outside of Devilswood which is thirty miles northwest of Bakerton, California. Just far enough away from home to escape. She has a degree in education and loves children so this should be the perfect job. What she is met with, is another matter altogether. The household manager is rude and nasty, but the homeowner likes her and hires her on the spot. Then the story shifts to England and gives the story of the Manning family and Ravencrest. Little does she know that the house is haunted and brought it’s ghosts with it from England.

Constant suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat. Really enjoyed it and cannot wait to read more about Belinda and Eric.

Queen of Fate & Fire (Rogue Ethereal, #6)Queen of Fate & Fire by Annie Anderson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Max needs a vacation, a tropical beach, a book, a quiet space, and her husband because girl has been through it. Heck Max might even need some serious meds because I can’t imagine what’s going on in her head over the course of the series but of course she is a magical being and I am not. Through the series we’ve seen Max go from a one woman show with very little family to becoming the daughter of Chaos and gaining a family she cobbled together from her misfit friends. It hasn’t all been about discovering family it's also been about big losses and some equally big gains. I can’t believe Max is ending here with Queen of Fate and Fire but it’s time for Max to rest.

Max is told she must find Dusan before the blood moon or the fae realm will be no more. Thinking she can just trick Alistair and her family into staying behind she sets off for a wild goose chase to find him, but she doesn’t get far. Many people have her back including her mother and grandmother to name a few. This ragtag group sets out to save a realm and their species but are dealt the ultimate surprise. They dodge a David Bowie type labyrinth minus the aforementioned David Bowie, a cyclops, several Gods and Goddess, creepy fish things and a water dragon to just name a few. This is the perfect book for it all to end.

I’m sad but I’m happy Max is finally getting her me time. She has kept me entertained with her antics. I wish that if I was a magical being, I’d be kicking butt like her. She has made us laugh with her quick quips and made us sad as she loses those she loves. This book does have a very awesome ending so it’s not all doom and gloom. Thank you, Annie Anderson, for giving us one kick butt heroine in a book world where there aren’t too many. We will always love the blue haired Massima!

New Review! After This (Reluctant Hearts #1) by Liora Blake 5 Cranky Stars

After This (Reluctant Hearts, #1)After This by Liora Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Cranky Stars

This book was phenomenal. I hated the main guy Alec Mason for the first couple of chapters. I thought he was one of those guys who is used to getting his way 24/7. Then he meets Sage, and his world tilts.

There were moments throughout the book that made me laugh out loud. The characters and their witty back and forth banter are what stood out to me. Sage is strong and not weak willed at all. As for Alec, lets just say that he will surprise you. I loved the character dynamic, the dialogue, and how they handle all the drama. It’s a nice change of pace to read a book that trims away the unnecessary drama. This book is amazing. I will definitely recommend it to others.

Isa is a werewolf that has yet to go through the change, a change that makes them almost immortal. Most female werewolves don't survive it and are mated and have kids before they go through it since females are rare. Isa doesn't want that kind of life, she wants to go to school and be free to live her life how she choses. The alpha's son, Rem, wants Isa and will do anything to get her, even if it means blackmailing her to agree. She wants to go back to school and finish getting her degree, but Rem won't allow it. He sets her family up for murder and sends her on a mission to find a lone wolf that is a threat to him. She uncovers many truths on her search and realizes that there is kind people out there who will love her for who she is.

Great book, I gotta be honest, it was kind of hard to start for me because of my own personal past experiences, but it is a amazing read.

New Review! Inked (Kill Devil Ink Series) by Sarah Darlington 4.5 Cranky Stars

InkedInked by Sarah Darlington
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 Cranky Stars

I think this has been my favorite of the series so far. Nick was relatable and a real person to me. He suffered from a mental illness many of us have. His character was written from a very real place it seemed. Amanda had real issues too and I liked that about her.

Amanda is a tattoo artist who lives a quiet life in her childhood home. She doesn’t have many friends outside the tattoo parlor and she’s ok with that. When a handsome man comes into her shop for a basic turtle tattoo on his butt she doesn’t like him much. He seems uptight and too good for her but she sways him to trust her to improve on his basic turtle tattoo. She figures this will be their last encounter and bids him farewell. Nick has mental health issues. He thinks he is too boring and not the type of guy anyone would want so he dedicates his life to his marine biology degree specifically sea turtles. When he finds himself in a tattoo parlor he isn’t expecting to meet Amanda. Something about the quiet pink haired woman calls to him. He figures this is their last encounter and doesn’t pursue anything beyond that. Fate has other plans for them and it’s up to them to see where this will go.

Like I said I loved Nick. His beanie has his comfort item reminds me of my many cardigans and sweaters. My husband calls them my security blankets. I loved that his panic attacks are just one of many ways they can happen. For some its full scale meltdown while some panic in silence like me. I loved that Amanda was a take charge girl but still very quiet and reserved. They are both introverts. I have liked this series since the originals in which this is a spin off from. I can’t wait for the next story.
