This book had many twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Makenna is strong, loyal, and one hell of a shot.

Hadley didn’t know her annoying neighbor was Viv’s new guitarist. She tries so hard to hate him but the disaster that is his life appeals to her fix it nature. Slowly Julian and Naomi (his niece) learn how to co-exist and form a bond like no other and Julian and Hadley fall in love. Trust me you’ll love it.


I always mentally prepare myself for an Aly Stiles book. I know she writes from a place of knowing how these characters feel. I haven’t lost a parent, but I have lost a set of grandparents that meant the world to me. I just imagined that ache tenfold. My daughter is eleven and I try to picture her acting the way Naomi does but I think Omi is world weary and touched by grief and that’s why she seems older. Julian handled his life with a certain grace. He never gave up but wasn’t afraid to show his emotions. Hadley well I commend her for being human and normal compared to the train wreck that is the Crawford family. Lord have mercy those people make you want to push them off a cliff then possibly pick them up and toss them off again for good measure. I say we have another winner from Aly Stiles.

"Makenna..." my father says and I turn my gaze to him. His tone is harsher than it usually is with me and I know that it's due to the men that are sitting in his office. My father is head of the Ceannaire ar chách, the Irish Mafia here in New York. He has been since my grandfather took a bullet to the heart from the Bratva. He was lucky and survived; I don’t know how. Granda says that no way on this earth were the Russian’s going to be his downfall. He’s living life to the fullest in Dublin, Ireland where he’s the head of the Mafia. "Matteo Bianchi..." 

My body tenses, I hate the Capo, have since I was twelve years old. 

Nobody knows about my hatred of Matteo and no one ever will. I know the consequences of what will happen if anyone finds out the truth about that night. 

My father carries on talking, "And I have agreed that our families being bonded is the only way to guarantee peace." I hide the scoff, this is absolute bullshit, there's no way that anything can be guaranteed. It'll be put on hold for a while, but something is bound to piss one of them off at some stage and then all hell will break loose. "You and Dante will marry." 

I grit my teeth, I knew one day I'd have to marry, it's the way our world works. A woman in the Mafia doesn't have the life like a normal woman, we're to be seen and not heard. We're to be at the beck and call of our father and then our husband. I've been lucky, my father isn't a monster to his family, unlike some of his men. From what I've heard most of the made men beat their women and children to submit to their wishes. Break the woman so they won't disobey them. 

I take a deep breath. "Yes, father." My gaze moves to my brothers who are standing in the corner of the office, they are looking at me with a weird expression. Did they think I'd object? I've not got a death wish. I'm not stupid. I'd never disrespect my father, not in front of his men and definitely not in front of men that are our enemies. 

My father nods his head, "You are fourteen, Makenna, and the wedding will take place when you are of age." His tone is darker once again, this isn't for my benefit, this is for the Famiglia. 

"Of course," Dante says harshly. 

Matteo shakes his head, "As soon as you're of age, we'll have the wedding." He turns his gaze to me, "You can go." 

My brothers tense, their hands on their guns, all of them eager to be the one to shoot him. There’s no love lost there and the tension in the room becomes thick. 

"Makenna, go to your mother." My father demands and I hold back the protest. I give my brothers a smile as I leave the office. 

My mother is waiting for me in the living room. Her hands by her side and a smile on her face. She rushes over to me. "You're finally getting married," she says and to anyone else it would be as though she's congratulating me. To me, I know better, she's been waiting for this day for a long time. Waiting for me to leave the house where she knows that the secret I carry will no longer risk being spilled.

If you are looking for an easy sexy winter read, then Fetching is the one you want to curl up with by a fire. The sparks between these two could light that fire for you honestly. It’s an age-old relationship troupe where he’s a sexy billionaire and she’s a stubborn as heck woman running a family business. I mean there is even a cute little dog named Snowball. Who doesn’t love puppies?


Sydney has moved back home to her small town to run her families Inn. Well, it’s more a bar and restaurant but It’s been in the family for years and not much has changed. She is floundering and doesn’t know how to pull herself out. She has a marketing degree not a business degree, but she gets points for trying. Wyatt finds himself needing to get away from NYC and when Harper suggests he checks out the town he is enamored by its charm. He even finds himself taken by the sassy Sydney. He offers to help her out, but she isn’t having it. He sets out to woo her to see his side and hopefully fall in love with him and she sets out to prove she doesn’t need help, but love makes you do strange things.


I really wanted to like Sydney but at some point, she just annoyed me. Her incessant complaining about her family business got to me. I get being stubborn and wanting to keep things in your family as it always has been, but times change things change and she was out of her wheelhouse. I know she meant well but I was kind of annoyed. Wyatt just wanted to help people but remain in control of how that money was spent. I guess the fluffy little dog added to his appeal. I don’t want to deter readers from this book. It is a cute sexy read like I said. Add in some fun best friends, a gaggle of charming protective brothers and one sister hiding from her life and you have the recipe for a good winter read.

Hollis Timewire was a normal 16 year old girl living in a society that shuns emotions of any kind "The path to a perfect society is perfect obedience." When she is tested for a biomarker and found to be "diseased", her whole world implodes. Rescued from execution by a group of others with special abilities, all Hollis wants is to go home again.


However, her plan to get rid of her monstrous ability backfires. She brings about the deaths of hundreds and the loss of the safety of the compound where she and her new friends are living. "The tantalizing promise of my old life was nothing but a lie meant to find and destroy the only people who ever cared about me."


The Council calls for her execution, but her mentor, Jonah, comes to her rescue. "She bought the lie of history. It's as simple as that." Hollis is given a 30 day probationary period to prove herself to be worthy of remaining a part of the group and begins the task of providing firewood for the compound. Hollis is tormented by what she has done and is merely existing in her prison. "The rotting corpses of the departed meet me in my dreams, ready to torture me."


She slowly comes to realize that maybe she has a purpose after all. A young boy is being held by the government as a secret weapon and is being used to remove the powers of the Diseased Ones. Hollis' powers were removed by that boy and she is determined that he should be rescued from his captivity. "It's what you choose to do now that will define who you become."


As Hollis, Jonah and a select team come up with a plan to rescue the boy, Hollis is being used by the government as the face of a terror organization that is supposedly trying to overthrow Society. "I'm the leader of the second Terror War."

Hollis comes to realize that her ability was not a monster after all and that these people are her true family. "Find joy in the ability that makes you who you are, because what's in here, with these people, that's what true life is about."


This book is well-written with great characters, plenty of action, and some thought-provoking ideas that will keep the reader entertained. I would advise that you read the first book in the series before trying to read this one since it begins at the exact moment that the first book ended. If you enjoy YA books set in a dystopian society, this series is worth checking out. I look forward to seeing what happens next to Hollis Timewire and her friends.

This book gets a 5 out of 5 Cranky Stars from me. My interest was held from beginning to end. From being alone and scared and different to being part of a family and being loved. Finding new friends and learning to accept new ones. Learning to OVERCOME and learning to control your powers and emotions to save one another. Learning new tricks from the “old ways”. Put it all together and this book gives it all.


Isis is a witch that will eventually become powerful but she will need the help and guidance of her family and new friend Zach. They battle a witch that is also a vampire (Valeria) which makes it hard to defeat her at first but working together always helps. While defeating her they sort of reveal themselves but spin it as a sneak peak of their Vegas Magic show and encourage the onlookers to get tickets to see them. Start to finish this book is awesome.
