New Review! Underground Magic by Natasha Larry, 5 Cranky Stars

Underground Resistance (Underground Magic)Underground Resistance by N.R. Larry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Cranky Stars

I was absolutely riveted from start to finish. I pretty much finished it in one night and immediately checked to see if the next one was available. Trust me. That is rare!
Alas, I have to wait until July 2017 for the follow up, but as soon as it arrives on my hot little kindle - I'll be devouring it.

Lawrence Kincaid used to be in the resistance fighting against the fascist, Eugenics based ruling Party with laws based on "racial purity" and anti supernatural. Camps, enslavement, kill orders - the Party has no compassion when it comes to those declared "impure". Lawrence is everything they hate: she's black and a powerful witch.

Five years ago, she walked away and hid with a small group of survivors in the magically protected Underground. Lawrence avoids the surface. She's suffered too many defeats there, but people she loves has been taken and she aims to get them back.

A chance meeting with a shifter, Ty, puts Lawrence on a collision course with not only the Party, but her self. Her element is a power that even she is afraid of, but in order to change the world, she might have to break it.

I highly recommend this story. I thoroughly enjoyed the parallels with history and also, current events. The characters were engaging and likeable. Some of the twists made me sit up and take notice.

I can't wait for the sequel and also, a pre-equal would be good too. *Hint, hint*.

New Review! Completely Captivated by AD Justice, 5 Cranky Stars

Completely CaptivatedCompletely Captivated by A.D. Justice
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

AD Justice is an author that I stumbled upon a little over a year ago. Since then I've scrambled to read everything she writes. This book literally fell into my lap and I couldn't sleep until I was done reading.
Sometimes you have to start at the end of the story to find the beginning. Sometimes the beginning is the end. This is a new original twist on a story of two very different men who are in love with the same girl.

Christa is the owner of the Sweet Spot, a cafe in the downtown area. She is making her dream come true and loving every minute of it. She has everything in life she wants except the big family she dreams of. Some things just aren't meant to be for her, or are they?

Aaron is the ultimate bachelor. He owns a very successful modelling agency and gets to sample the menu frequently. Hot models to stare at and enjoy everyday seems like the best life to have until he stumbles into The Sweet Shop and into Christa. All of a sudden he wants a different life, a different path and one woman.

Things happen fast and love blooms. A quick Vegas wedding and both of their dreams are coming true until Aaron wakes up with no memory of any of it.

Jared has finally graduated college and moved back home. Now all he needs to do is get Christa to admit she loves him so they can start their lives together. Only there's a problem. Christa is in love with another man. Can he sway her to his side?

There is so much going on in this book yet it all fits perfectly. The love, grief and male stupidity comes in spades, yet the lust and hotness rounds it out. I could not put this book down. This author is one that i highly recommend and encourage you to one-click your copy today.

New Review! Civil War by G. Miller, 4 Cranky Stars

Civil WarCivil War by G. Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

This is the first book I've read by G. Miller and in the Nephilim Chronicles Series. I have to admit, coming into it without the requisite background, it took me a while to get into the story and work out the characters and the world I was in.

In saying that, this is an intriguing world with fully fledged characters. In some ways, I was reminded of Luke Cage and Django, not in terms of similar storylines or characters, but in terms of thematics.

Dr. Athena Johnson, a newly minted PhD, wants to help her people. In the midst of a drug epidemic, she runs Jacob's ladder to save addicts and victims.

Her twin brother, Apollo, wages war with Artemis Harris, the only manna supplier in the State and also, a white supremacist.

As the war draws closer, Athena becomes a target. Her normal stance is to seek peaceful resolution, but this time that might not work. What path she chooses will dictate the future of the community she is determined to protect.

There is a lot to like about this book. It's multi-layered and much of the issues the author explores in the work have relevance to social and political climates - both current and past. It's not easy to classify: there's political intrigue, supernatural, thriller, action, and filled with diversity.

As an aside, I loved the nods to the Greek and Roman Gods in the Johnson children's names. It fed the geeky historian in me. And as a proud member of a martial arts family, I did enjoy the fight sequences that often felt cathartic.

The characters are likeable and relatable, the issues important and the storyline is unique. Recommended.

Release Blitz! Graffiti City: A License to Jizz by Thor Cox

Release Date: 06/06/2017
Publisher: Howling Mad Press

Graffiti City: Cummageddon
Issue 1

Suzy Suxxx takes both of her jobs very seriously. As one of the hottest porn stars in Graffiti City, she keeps the adult citizens happy with her gravity-defying moves on the set. As a secret Sexual Liberation Underground Taskforce (S.L.U.T.) agent, codenamed Starfish, she keeps innocents safe.

The supervillain business has been booming lately. With a recent spike in activity from the evil Legion of Absolute Domination (L.O.A.D.), Suzy is up to her eyeballs in boy-joy juice to keep her unique superpower flowing. Quite frankly, it's exhausting.

After being on call 24/7 for weeks, all she wants is a damn night off.

But things are looking up when a religious hunk of a villain appears at the scene of a crime she's investigating. Not only does Celibator's puritanical innocence threaten to bring Suzy to her knees, but he could also help her hook the biggest bottom-dweller in the L.O.A.D. pond: the Jacker. Rumor has it, the Jacker has his sights on purloining Abraham's Testicles.

As in, THE Abraham. From the Bible.

If L.O.A.D. gets their greasy hands on this powerful magical artifact, it could mark the beginning of an unholy war against humanity, fought with sexual weapons of mass destruction.

A superhero's work is never done, and there are no nights off.

Griffin City is screwed, motherfuckers. Long live Graffiti City.

Be on the lookout for the next books in the series ...

Release Day! The History in Us by L.B. Dunbar

Cover Design: Shanoff Formats
Release Date: June 2, 2017

Are you a hero yet?
Her words rang in my head.
I wanted to be.
For you, I want to be, I told her in my dream, the dream where she kissed me again.
A hero-worthy kiss.
Stay safe, she had said. Come back to me.
My lips tingled.
The brush of hers over mine a memory held in the blackest of night,
the hottest of desert days,
and the cold-evil hell of war against hidden enemies.
I wanted another chance to taste those lips,
melt them against mine,
and mold her body to me.
I wanted to live.
For Katie.

About the Author
Avid drinker of Coca-Cola, L.B. Dunbar loves the sweet things in life. Her affair with all things romantic began with her first book at the tender age of six: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. She loves a deep belly laugh and a strong hug. Occasionally, she has the energy of a Jack Russell terrier. Accused, yes, that’s the correct word, of having an over active imagination; to her benefit, such an imagination works well. Author of over a dozen novels, she’s created small town worlds, rock star mayhem, and MMA chaos. Her other duties in life include: mother to four growing children and wife to the one and only.
